19 Powerful Sentences by Carl Jung

5 quick gems of the week

Sup friends 👋🏼,

It’s been a crazy busy season of travel (and still one more trip to the US to go in the coming week).

My newsletter output has slowed, but I’ve still tried to write regularly on LinkedIn - some of my recent posts:

There’s a few more - feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn and see my recent posts here. Alright, enough self-promotion...

Let’s get to it 🙂

/1 Founder Mode

Don’t think I can start this newsletter with any other post.

You’ve probably heard of this article already if you’re in startup circles, but the TLDR is that Paul Graham, founder of famous accelerator Y-Combinator, penned a post explaining how, as a company scales, founders should be heavily involved in the details (and not leave it up to the execs).

Conventional management wisdom says to hire smart people and get out of their way, but actually, a founder should be involved in many of the key initiatives and not just leave it to others.

The post below summarises it better than I have!

I’ll probably write more about this in the coming weeks/months.

/2 Plan A only. If it doesn’t work, find a new plan A

The above quote reminds of a video with Will Smith on the Charlie Rose show.

“Plan B distracts from Plan A. So there’s only Plan A”.

/3 Reminders from Marcus Aurelius

Short & pithy points from the OG. My favourite?

“Most people are doing the best they can” 💙

/4 19 Powerful Sentences by Carl Jung

Carl Jung was a Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who founded analytical psychology. He is widely known for his work on the nature of the unconscious mind, the collective unconscious, and archetypes.

Some of these are a bit abstract, but I’m sure you can find one quote that resonates with where you’re at right now. My favourite?

  • “No matter how isolated you are and how lonely you feel, if you do your work truly and conscientiously, unknown friends will come and seek you.”

  • “The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are.”

  • “I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.”

/5 Marc Randolph on His Success

This is what winning sounds like in my book.

Marc Randolph, one of the most successful entrepreneurs of our time having co-founded Netflix, shares what’s important to me.

What’s the point of being materially successful if don’t have anyone to share it with, and don’t feel personally fulfilled?

Netflix was the 7th startup he founded.

Married to Lorraine Kiernan Randolph since 1987 (37 years).

The real winner.

That’s a wrap - let me know your favourite link 🙂

Till next week,

Fahim ✌️
